No i dont think he is the best ever but hes the best around at the moment,you are right he is surrounded by world class players but thats not his fault! Comparing him to Maradona is a bit unfair both very similar players although i would say Maradona is better. The game is also a lot quicker now with lightweight balls,boots.The high tempo that Barcelona play at is unreal & the players all seem to be on the same wavelength. I love watching players like Messi & i can say i`ve seen him close up in the Camp Nou.
Something else too about the different eras. When Maradona was strutting his stuff in Naples, Serie A was not only the best league it was also the most defensive-minded. Scoring goals was difficult. La Liga by comparison is much more open and defence is not what the league is based upon.

yeah, probably sums up my feeling on it. I think he's deserved of a mention with the greats of the game but to top maradona, he'd need to do it with another team at least, whether that's leading the argies to world cup glory or another club side. To score that amount of goals though is just unreal. But then again, if Barca is the greatest club side ever, then is it a surprise really? Maradona aside, be interesting to hear what greats people reckon he's better/not better than...Cruyff? De stefano? Pele? Zidane?

I must admit i haven't seen much of messi at all, i only like watching english football unless its champions league, spanish football is fucking boring to watch IMO so i never bother, but all i hear about messi is that he's singlehandedly ripped teams apart etc etc !!
