i have resisted northern soul music and culture all my life,

but in the past few years i have to few Do's and throughly enjoyed them, spend more and more time looking into the culture and music

Never really listened to any Northern Soul apart from in passing. Feel there's a gap in my musical education. Can anyone recommend a decent compilation to get me going?

Have you read 'Skag Boys' by Irvine Welsh? It's a prequel to 'Trainspotting' but there are a fair few scenes when the characters make the drive from Edinburgh to Blackpool to go to the Mecca. Decent read aside too.

I might give that irvine welsh book a go.

there are a lot of northern soul and soul scene books and a movie soon coming out as well.

I have quite a few of the books will dig out some tonight for titles. Not read any for years to be honest but they got me into it at the beginning so played a big part in converting me.

regarding hearing a good selection of music cheap then the best place to start would be the ace / kent CDs

excellent compilations with good sleve notes.
