Not got a macbook , but got an imac. If you're at uni you get a fairly decent discount mate, didn't matter that I was part time either (well didn't tell them anyway). Think mine was 15%.
There's a dedicated section of the Apple online store or I just called them and they email you a quote.
If you use Mac Rumours you can find out when they're due to release new models
I tried the macbooks mate but they didn't really impress me enough to buy one, went for a sony vaio in the end and love it, the extra 300 notes you pay is for the little apple on the front imho
Cheers for the help. How has your imac been? I have heard they don't crash as much as pc's etc. But is the hardware as sturdy. My ipod has massively reduced in battery life since I got it and the headphone jack has broke so can only hear out of one ear now. Is this kind of thing going to happen to the macbook as well or are they reliable.
Since you have had it for 4 years do you feel that it is a bit 'out of date' amin. LIke do you really need to get the updated one or are you just getting it because you want to?
I don't want to be forced into having to buy a new one once I have it.
Just purchased a new laptop today, Sony Vaio with a 4gb ram and 500gb hardrive looked at the Macbooks but this one is better imo massive memory and a I3 processor which is suppoisdly 35% fast than normal
Also has a blu ray player dolby home theater sound system blue tooth list is endless and was neigh on £400 cheaper
Ive used Macbooks for about 8 years now. Within a couple of weeks I was hooked and it now pains me using a PC at work.
The software is all fully integrated and seamless. I've never had it crash on me and the operating system is so easy to use. I'm no designery type, but do appreciate its ease of use when I am messing with photos/music/web/email etc. To be fair im not much of a gamer, stick to the Playstation for that, but hear that it doesn't compare to some PC based laptops for that....
New ones are just around the corner, so I'd wait and get the latest specs, or pick up a current one cheap when everyone upgrades.

That's pretty much why I want to get one. Heard they are so simple and I like simple. Not a gamer either so that doesn't matter.
I'll be waiting to buy since new ones are released soon but will apple still sell the old ones?
It depends what your using it for really. If your the creative type then a Mac is for you. If your wanting gaming a PC base is for you. If your after porn just get the cheapest one and PM me for some decent filth links.

I just want a new macbook!!!!!!
I don't need the upgrade because my current one works fine for browsing the net and doing my work. I've updated it with the latest software and it runs fine.

just out of interest which model did you get, how much and where from?
For all the sparkle and sheek styling the greatest thing about macs has to be the start-up, sleep, and shut-down times
I fancy a browse, push button, seconds later everything's up and running. Making a cupper, click 'sleep', instant sleep mode, come back with said cuppa, click, and everything back instantly
My HP laptop and Vaio desktop were taking what seemed like hours after only 6 months
Right I'm quite convinced I'm getting one now. Now I need the cheapest option.
What about second hand? Should I avoid it?
Just looking at the base model Macbook. All i need to be hoenst. Can get that for about £750 on education pricing. Is that the cheapest I'll find brand new?

SONY VAIO VPCEB3L0E/BQ.CEK got it from Currys at £650
Had the standard Macbook for a year now just use it for basic stuff, web, music etc. Love it, easy to use once you get the hang of it and couldn't really list any negatives. . Got mine at John Lewis (great service and great with faults through personal experience) roughly £700 or so.
Can't think you'd get it cheaper than direct from apple to be honest, only time would be for a discontinued model but even then the discounts aren't that great. Worth popping into a store if you've got one nearby as they sometimes have cashback deals on for education customers.
Ok. Last questions on this. Is there anything that won;t open when using a macbook. i.e. do they come with all the software to open flash files/pdf files e.t.c
And I would like it as soon as possible because I have uni work to be cracking on with, will i notice a huge difference between the current model and the updated one coming out.
