Having a debate with a mate the other day about the best form of martial art and i was saying Muay Thai has to be the most effective which i have got my son doing at the moment. But he does Tae Kwon do and he had a Krav Maga session and said that this was the most effective.
I personally think everybody should learn how to box before moving on as there's so many people in most disciplines who don't even know how to punch properly and range etc.
Krav Maga is insane though and is definitely the best for close range stuff but Muay Thai is the best for general striking IMO. If you get to a good level of either I'm sure you'll be ok looking after yourself.
Always special deals on Krav Magna lessons on Livingsocial.com. I agree on the boxing aspect has being a solid foundation. My eldest daughter does Shoaolin Kung Fu which includes Boxing. She has her first competition fight next week...
A lad I used to work with was bang into Krav Maga, reckoned it was the most effective form of close range combat, lots of weapon work too. Originally it was devised by Hungarian Jews for protection and subsequently was adopted by the Israeli army. I've watched a few videos etc and thought about going for classes, but I'd rather get back into boxing I think.
They also teach that in the gym where i train.. My boxing coach says it's that all the guys who are afraid to get punched practise krav maga haha. I've sometimes have a look at their training, and it's really effective when someone holds you, but i think when you come into a real fight Tae Kwan Do is more effective..
ive trained both krav maga and muay thai, and its two very different types of styles. for one, KM is for selfdefence and does not really train you to fight more than how to avoid fights and effective striking when physical contact is inevitable, which could include kicks to the groin and such. as for MT, its a sport which teaches you to how to fight rather than driving your thumb into an attackers eye as in KM
yeah if youre grabbed by the Hulk/Bouncer a few palm slaps to the eye area and they cant help but let go and you have it on your toes. Sounds right up my street haha
