Economy? Parental upbringing? TV? Video games? Music?
Just been thinking lately about this with so many senseless murders and such. Seems like many are just out of their heads these days and many of them are getting younger and younger. They just caught a serial killer here (strangled and raped 3 women) 6 high school kids got stabbed outside of a school.
I've been thinking about it a lot lately now with a 5 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. Doing my best to raise them as respectable as possible.
Tough to answer this one. Generation after generation has been asking this question but the fact of the matter is the human being is a flawed design. Look at what our ancestors did to each other. Look at what religion has done to people over the last 2,000 years. Look at what religion makes people do today.
When you are a young gun you don't think about these things. You are bullettproof. As you mature you see how senseless these things are and begin to question why.
It's been asked for milennia and will be asked for as long as the human being is a species. No one has come up with the reasons why we are so flawed. They probably never will.
Just keep on raising your kids with the love you have already shown them and try not to worry too much.
Is it popular or have we just become more aware as we get older and things are more accessible, I work with challenging youths and see their destruction and senseless behaviour which admittingly does seem crazy to me nowadays, but I look back on my youth and feedback I recieved and cant seem to see any difference. I do see the damage the internet is doing and the insecurities this seems to be breeding among younger people, ie social networking. Parental Upbringing does come up in discussion when i attend meetings, There seems to be a lost generation, people blame traditionial values going out the window, Women wanting to be more independent ( very risky), I not so sure. I am now here to pick up the pieces in my life for these unfortunate young people who havent had an opporunity. I did a talk once few years back and invited top local buisiness directors etc to meet on a bad estate to meet these young teenagers who: all they knew was crime, mainly car crime, The directors/business's who bothered to attend were very nervous on arrival, so were the kids. I talked about these kids been experts in what they do, breaking into cars and off in 30 seconds flat. I asked how many they would approach if they lost their car keys tonight. Basically what I wanted to get across in this meeting was that these kids were our future surveyors etc, with a chance of good careers because they had the skill at such an early age, only problem was they was channelling that expertise into something negative. Misguided..
In the UK, i d say its down to the law over-protecting the criminal, so that the consequences of criminal activity arent particularly worrying for the person committing the crime. One of the reasons people arent likely to try and apprehend a criminal, is that if you are slightly over zealous you may face charges yourself. Human rights have gone far beyond where they should be, and the sentences do not always fit the crime, have a read of this the sentences are totally disproportionate compared to other more serious crimes....
The criminal justice system here is fucked as well.
Someone is up for murder with a sentence of death. Courts would rather bargain a manslaughter plea of guilty with a sentence of 25 to life just to get a guilty plea and win the case then go for the real charge just to secure a win.
I think it has a lot to do with upbringing as many parents just let the kids run wild with no consequences within the family for wrongdoings. I know I wasn't the best kid but I did have respect and feared my father if I did something shitty.
Problem is years ago you had to save and earn to get the nice things in life, which meant you appreciated more. Now the goverment make it so easy for people to get money etc and the more kids you have the more money you get. Kids get far too much for xmas etc and by the time they are 8 they already have everything..... Both parents working and kids being looked after by friends, family or day centres not being brought up by the parents but by other people. Parents not interacting with there kids, would rather them be quiet watching television than doing some painting or going for a walk with them. Im old fashioned and believe you should sit round the table as a family at tea times etc learn the values of life and all that, it has been lost along the way. Another big problem is respect i used to crap myself if someone came to the house to tell my old man id been up to no good.......nowadays people are even too scared to go and tell parents because of trouble................. Shame really we are a country where alot of the youth expect to be given money etc off the state, to sit around all day smoking weed and touching other youths fists with there hoodies up and nike 110's what a shame
Live life to the full and enjoy, try and help people who havn't got as much as you, you never know what tomorrow will bring!!!!
I partly blame the internet tbh and i even work for a ISP :P
Problem is we get bombarded with stuff on the web and tv that would be talked about before but now we are shown graphical pictures of bodies blown up and worse.
The limits on the shock effect have moved alot during the last 25 years and stuff we considered unthinkable to see on telly wouldnt even make alot of people sick these days.
Why do people slow down and take pictures of traffic accidents? flaws in their mind.
I think its partly due to easy acces to vast quantities of information and pictures/movies that the borders of what humans do to eachother
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
I'm unconvinced that society is in downfall to be honest. Clearly there are economic problems right now and isolated incidents of extreme violence but compared to the semi-regularity of three day weeks in the early 70s things haven't come close to their nadir. Similarly problems like child abuse etc are far more open now, with more perpetrators been convicted than ever before, surely its better that these problems are being reported than swept under the rug?
In the west our standard of living is better than ever, give me the opportunities of today vs those of the past any day.
(football is an exception, even in my life time the quality of going to the game has crashed)

Completely agree mate, I don't think it's that bad, I think there is a problem that Jonah touched on in the fact people are having kids and doing nothing with them, I'm a family man at heart and believe in manners, they were bred into me and I breed it into my children, as for kids running round in group's doing what they want it's difficult to see them any different to us and what we did/do at the football every weekend, obviously we wouldn't put ourselves anywhere near the same as catogory as the niked up yoof but as an outsider and a law abider we were/are no different bar we channelled ourselves in different direction's, I have manner's, I hold the door open for women and the elderly, I would step in to help if I saw a mugging/rape/beating etc, but I've still had 17 court appearences in my life, I've still done thing's I shouldn't have, I still love and always will love music/dancing/drug's, so from that perspective it's hard to get on my box and say this and that is wrong without being part of it, end of the day in my humble opinion there is a massive lad culture in britain, and that will never go away, and every country is the same except they do it in different way's be it with gun's swords knives or fists, its a dog eat dog world and if your not brought up right in this world you become a part of it and that will only get bigger and more exteme unfortunately
Media is definitely stirring things up. When you read into stuff it's clear that things are not as bad as they are often portrayed. As an example it's funny how the media completely ignores the fact that mobile phones and ipods werent around when they talk about rises in muggins since the 90's.
I'm a bit of a left-winger, though not radical at all. I think the main problem is the "market society", especially its focus on extreme consumerism and its Darwinian view of humans. Capitalism won, and there's definitely no turning back. There's loads of positives to take from capitalism, sadly the massive pitfalls that comes along are ignored by many governments. Even this governments advisers are talking about this, although it seems they're being ignored. Cuts now will have huge effects in the future. I think the ideal in the current circumstances is social democratics like Sweden has had for a few years until recently. High taxes sadly seems like a no-go for so many people in UK and even more so in US. There's a 40% tax in Denmark and the positives from that are crystal clear in these times of economic unrest.
The category of the prosumer commodity does not signify a democratization of the media towards participatory systems, but the total commodification of human creativity
GOOD THREAD. Personally i blame rap music, Computer games and the internet, amongst other things. Kids walking around like they are 50cent thinking they are invincible. Treating women like bitches and whores. Cannot get my head around that. Kids spending hours and hours playing computer games. Killing things all day. If they get killed on these games then it's not really game over. Just play again. No sense of mortality/reality. The internet is full of some really sick shit and it is not very hard to find. I also think people need to be tested mentally to see if they are fit enough to have kids. Alot of parents are clearly not. Skunk weed plays a part too. It is far too strong and it's clearly sending people mental/paranoid schizophrenic. Trust me. I used to smoke dope daily for 15 years. Seen quite a few young and old smokers turn into basket cases. Parents in their teens and twenties smoking blow all day not being arsed to bring their kids up properly. We are a selfish society. We don't need a lot of stuff but we just buy it. Most of it is shit that gets used once or twice. But the person who i blame most is THATCHER.

I often say the same, but then realise we'd be developing into China.
i am a firm believer that the way you bring up your children has a large impact on how they carry themselves in life.
Proper values and virtues are instilled. Learn to think for themselves. Teach them to make right choices in life. Teach them to respect their elders, the military ect.
Many of things that gets over looked in today's youth.
agree with Mac. Personally (we all have our political views) Labour left this country in a disgraceful fashion. The criminals are taking the absolute piss, safe in the knowledge that the HR Act will give them every chance of getting off. Left wing softly softly approaches to criminality has let Law and order swing way out of control. Beauracracy galore. I could rant for days on this. Until we start putting proper cunts away/down/to sleep/all 3 then it'll continue. I despise those who argue the case for rehabilitating a rapist, a paedo, etc...- from the safety and comfort of never having had their nearest and dearest suffer horrifically at the hands of some monster.

I was brought up a particular way and learnt from a young age that I was responsible for my own actions and the decisions I made.
I have made lots of mistakes in my life, but have never blamed anyone else and have always tried to learn from my experiences.
Times have changed significantly since I was growing up, but if you ask me, there is now a culture of always looking to blame someone or something else instead of standing up and taking responsibility for your own life and how you conduct yourself.
I truly believe that there are sections of society that have children but have absolutely no interest in raising them, obviously this is passed on to that child who grows up and has children and has no idea how to raise a child and so the cycle continues.
My blood boils just thinking about it..... So rant over.

Kind of funny reading this on a clothing forum, haha.
Is true though.[/quote]
I can understand some finding that statement funny on the forum. I've never really had the cash to just buy clothing on a spur of the moment or even to buy it off lads on a forum. What i mean is, i have to try something on first to make sure it looks good/fits. Then i will get plenty of wear out of it. I've no interest in having the latest 'must have ' jacket for a day just so i can class myself a being 'in with the in crowd'. Don't want the hassle of buying off lads on here then having to sell it on because it looks good in a picture but looks shit on, or does'nt fit. Also i've got a pretty steady style of dress. I'm not into looking like i'm about to attempt everest one week then recreate the 1984 wimbledon final the next. This is not a dig at anyone. Everyone s entitled to do their own thing.
