anyone on here escaped lady nicotines vice like grip? Tried numerous times now, patches, tablets, cartridges, voodoo spells the lot and nothing seems to work. Was adamant i was quitting after the VAT increase but just done 5 days cold turkey and am now convinced i will never quit, spen the last 3 days feeling absolutly horrific, arguing with people at work, falling out with the missues and eating like a power lifter so ive caved and bought a pack of the evil little things. So heres to a short life
Same boat mate but not tried everything. Just done a week in Italy and didn't have any but got back in the local pub Sunday and had 3 with me beers. Not had any more but craving a lot. I can resist until I am in the pub and as the beer flows I always cave in but can go with out when abroad. Don't get it but never stop trying is my advice.
Smoked for over 20 years. Gave up just over 2 years ago. Went straight cold turkey. No patches/gum, nothing. After 3 days the nicotine is out of your system apparently. Your mind is just fucking with you. Did used to think about it for a long time afterwards though. Only problem was i put on nearly 4 stone. losing it now though. If you want to do something badly enough then you will. It's just not your time at the minute. Best of luck next time.
I did it by cutting out, starting from the 1st one you have, so cut one out when you get up example. then look forward to the one at work, when used to that cut out the next one in the day and work your way through the day. got to were I was just having one after work @ 8pm and enjoyed it. Have stopped numerous times before and dont smoke that much anyway, maybe 5/6 day. As said what works for you and when its your time you will do it, I just didnt feel the benefits if honest and enjoyed it so continued plus its a good way of taking time out from my stressful job
Smoked 20 a day for 20 yrs and gave them up 3 yrs ago. Just stopped cold turkey and the first few weeks were a nightmare. I was like a fucking demon, fidgety and seriously on edge. But, if you can get through the first couple of weeks you'll get there mate. The key for me was realising that the longer I was a smoker, the sooner I was gonna die. Simple as that.
And I have fuck all willpower so I even suprised myself. That said, I smoke like a chimney on the very rare occasions I drink and the rest of it.
Apart from the health benefits it's fucking great to not have my gaff and clothes stinking of smoke too. If you try again best of luck.
I use Ja's method. I have one or two at work and one before I go to bed on the back step. However - I will happily smoke 30 or 40 fags on a big sesh and easily 10 on a quiet tuesday night in the pub. as soon as I start totting thats it. Pisses me right off.

thats my thing too,I enjoy smoking too much to want to quit. tThat first one of the day on the way to work is a thing of beauty. Not even really that arsed about the health problems it causes either just sick of it costing me £6 a day.
and the lad above needs to sort that fucking avatar out dont fancy my gaffer copping an eye full of gail platts fried eggs
Stopped smoking a few times but always started again until i had champix tablets they give you some crazy dreams but hey ho 2 year later still smoke free
Think you have to be mentally ready......I gave up about two years ago, no patches or anything, used to have the odd one down the pub when your with other people who you used to smoke with, but after a while used to get a bit dizzy and stuff. Still get the urge quite regular when i'm drinking but I know I will just feel like shit when I have one.....fuck it, getting the urge now

Smoked for 29 years and tried multiple times cold turkey but always failed. Asked the Doc for Champix in January '09 and am still smoke-free. I found it ridiculously easy on the tablets compared with the cold turkey method. Put a bit of timber on mind but will work on losing that in the near future.
For those that haven't tried the Champix I'd seriously consider giving them a go.
I used to smoke about 20 a day but gave up during the World Cup in 98. What I found to help was changing your routine, for instance when you have a break at work go somewhere that you can't smoke, I used to brush my teeth every time I wanted a smoke which helped me and gum and mints were helpful too. At the time I'd just bought a new car and a house with my girlfriend so I didn't want to smoke in those and that helped. It was harder to stop then because you could smoke in pubs which tested me but after a while I became a proper reformed smoker and now I can't stand the smell especially on my clothes.
Good luck with quiting and if you give in and have one just try again.
