depends you sharing or want a house/flat to yourself??? have a house maybe coming up for rent but 500 month, otherwise, city centre has loads and then shared is a bus ride away - Crookes, Walkley and Eccleshall Rd through to Nethedge, All big houses split into shared accom, Or you could always make yourself homeless and stay at my work LOL
Stopping in halls is the norm for the first year, means you get to meet a few people who you can get a house with the next year. The halls on Bramall Lane are popular, or there's a big complex on London Road, also some new ones in the city centre right next to Hallam Uni on Arundel Street.
Problem is, you could get stuck with a dozen fuckwit 19 year olds running around all night doing your swede. If you're easily irritated, like me, big student complexes may not be the answer. Then it's a choice of shared houses. I stopped around the Sharrow area, cheap but for a reason as not the nicest. Noticed new student flats going up here too. Most popular are the side roads off Ecclesall Road, or up around Sheff Uni area.
Same here, I went strait into a house share cuz I was worried of living with dicks for a whole year in pigeon huts!
If you want a really nice, kinda quiet area, id say your best bet was Nether Edge area. 10 minute bus ride into the centre & lovely gaffs. Ecclesall Road is a absolute dream for the ladies and a generally good area.
As Mr Merson says, a quick tour could be arranged before the dogs meet. (For boozers and a little retail therapy perhaps...)
i really havnt a clue lads, ideally you want to meet new people and i think halls will be a decent opportunity for that without having to do much effort,(loads of young women too!) i hadnt thought about being irritated/annoyed by them in fairness.

definitely in two minds. ill not be putting up with any silly carry on. but also afraid that being in one of the quieter areas might limit meeting different people.

Trust me, go into halls. There are obvious downsides. Like sharing with other people and sometimes can be rowdy but it's one of my biggest regrets not going into halls in my first year of uni.
As said , sets you up nicely to go into your own flat with mates you make in the first year.
