I think alcohol is a thousand times worse than the likes of some drugs, lost count of how many people I think turn into cunts when they drink, I suppose it depends on what drugs they would regulate, I would rather them ban drink/heroin and then look at it but thats just my opinion

Why did I know your name would drop up on this thread... Hope you're ready for the weekend fella. Armed to the teeth with records, narcotics and smiles !
Softer drugs like weed can influence people to go onto the harder stuff like heroin etc. It's sad that these days any campaign of this sort has to be endorsed by celebrities.
drugs are part of a large part of our growing up years. Yes its stupid but ,at the time, it was fun and gave youanother new experience. i enjoyed the whole dance sen from 88-92 ,at any rate. I dontregret one bit of it
Obviuously the down side, and we all have mates no doubt, who never did stop and went on to become heroin addicts. I dont think they are "cunts", as some on here call them. They are lost people who have been sucked into a world that difficult to escape from.
Bfore anybody says, no i wouldnt be so liberal, id my house ws brken into and myfamily terrorised my junkies looking for cash! Im talking about lads who have taken the wrong path in life and cannot esape. There are some people who are cuntrs wether they are on or off drugs but ther comes a time for stopping that lark and facing up to lifes responsibilities. except when it comes to wasting 100's on clothes we dont need. just another addiction!
So,imo, drugs are fine for some in your youth, but there comes a time stop
Zitat von Gavb They are lost people who have been sucked into a world that difficult to escape from. Im talking about lads who have taken the wrong path in life and cannot esape.
I don't disagree with you. But in the general context Heroin is a bad one.
The problem with smack is that some get sucked into a world they can't escape from. I know many ex-heroin addicts. But I'd also attended a couple of funerals before I was 25 years old of friends who had overdosed. These were people who I'd been at primary school with. They grew up in the same environment as myself and others in our peer group but for whatever reason decided to go that bit further unfortunately.
Drugs of all varieties are so prevalent and cheap these days compared to when I first became 'aware' of ' them 25 years back. And back then people were saying the same things about banning them and their detrimental effect on society, as they were 25 yrs before then. And will be 25 years into the future.
How fucking ridiculas, like anything is going to happen.
If you have to take drugs to have a good time and socialise then you are an absolute twat.
I agree drink can be the same in instances as Individual said i've seen people be cunts on drink and act the big man, but drugs are a no, no for me, i've been brought up with that and will stick to it.
Have got mates and acquaintances that have paid the ultimate price for weekends of excess, can't help but think legalising would create more similar unfortunate instances

Zitat
So if you dont have to take them to have a good time but take them because you enjoy taking them - what does that make someone in your book?
Fair point this.
A lot of people need alcohol to enjoy themselves. I personally haven't drunk for 20 years. And I've lost count of how many people who question how I can go out and enjoy myself without having a 'drink'.
And at work on a Saturday night at a pub. I see the effect of drink on many. And people who I've had altercations with only for them to come back the next week apologising and saying - "It wasn't me. I was drunk. I get like that when I'm pi*sed." ?

I understand what you are saying but alcohol is a part of our culture and has been for centuries. If alcohol was a 'new' thing and just emerging then every Government in the world would ban it. The affect it has on our society is frightening in truth. Nearly 40% of murders are committed by someone under the influence of alcohol. The vast majority of assaults at a weekend are drink-related. I like a drink myself and very rarely touch 'drugs' but I don't try and pretend that alcohol is in any way a better drug.

To be honest bezz I'm a firm believer in you make your own way in life, you make your own decisions, mistakes, paths and enjoyment so you can't go on what others tell you, the government tell you it's ok to drink at 18, but I dont like myself when I'm pissed, the government tell us it's illegal to take drugs but I enjoy doing it. There's a massive difference in my book in certain drugs and it's all found from me, from my experiences and from the people I have met along the way, some things go hand in hand and although that's changed slightly for me over the years there are 3 that still stick heavily on me- music, drugs and sex. For me it's all about having a good time and I have a good time with those 3 things but with drugs obviously it's moderation and choice, everybody's different though.

I find it hard to fathom how someone in theory - Could go out on a Saturday down huge quantities of ale. Stagger about knocking over tables etc. Offer all and sundry in the surrounding area to fight them. Leave to then go and abuse the local Kebab/Pizza staff before spewing their purchase back up on the pavement outside the shop. Go home wake up the neighbourhood trying to gain entry as they can't find their keys/the door. Unknowingly p*ss the bed. And then the next day stand in moral judgement over someone who the previous night had a few lines of Coke with the argument that 'drugs' are the scourge of society?

That whole argument is flawed though. Massively flawed. Just trotting out statistics like that is a load of absolute tripe in my opinion. If drug abuse was as prevalent as binge drinking then it would be a fair comparison. It is not so it is not. Oh and that's not a dig at you. You could turn it round and say 60% murders are committed by people who have not been drinking so if we forced everyone to drink we would see a reduction in the murder rate.
Oh and mr watts I too know of a gentleman who does not drink and I have asked him the same question. Not in the way you phrase it though. I meant that drunk people when you are sober are fucking annoying and how can you put up with them
I'm not really sure of all this pressure, I'm never gonna lose any of my old letters, 'Cause they'll stay with me, Until I can see that I'm no one

Hahaha. When it gets to the point of having to communicate to each other via sign language I just call it a night and walk away (Like a tabloid journalist - "I made my excuses and left.") . It's just something I've grown up with so you get used to it I suppose.

I completely agree with this and it's a brilliant point. I don't take drugs and never have but I can't be certain to say whether I will or I won't in the future. I do drink though but I do find it quite amusing when people get this impression that alcohol can't cause harm etc and that it's so much better than drugs. The way our society has evolved has meant that alcohol is a part of it, drugs also are but not to the same extent. That's a big reason why certain drugs are looked down upon.

I know that stats don't always prove anything but in the case of alcohol they are relevant IMO. The weekend is upon us and thousands of lads will be arguing and fighting tonight across the UK and they will mostly be full of ale. Now you could argue that some of those lads would be 'at it' without ale but most of them wouldn't. It's why most of the fighting is done later on in the night. In other words, at 8pm they aren't drunk enough. And as for the alcohol-related murders, well I'd wager that a lot of those wouldn't have happened if the perpetrators had been sober. To say anything else would be folly. We haven't even mentioned the cost alcohol has on the NHS yet.
As I stated, I like a drink, quite a few actually but I don't try and take the moral high ground in a drug debate.
Only 1% of the heroin shipped into this country is found. That alone begs the question, why exactly do we spend millions on trying to prevent it? Not only on trying to prevent it, for that matter, but the whole system in which it works due to its illegality; from coppers to courts. Money and lives it costs.
Every nation which legalises substance "misuse" sees a decrease in use. I'd like my government to make decisions based on fact, not blind rhetoric.
I'll openly admit I've made my way through pretty much every drug there is (bar the big two), and I have criminal convictions to show for it - and it's that which pisses me off the most - "criminal convictions". I've never intentionally hurt another cunt in my life, and certainly not when I've taken some kind of substance. And yet I, as a serving member of the community, having worked for a number of years helping adults with learning disabilities, have to have a further interview after every interview I get to explain to my perspective employer as to why I have been arrested for such "crimes". Why I've been arrested for risking my own health and minding my own business, while those who continually speed in motor vehicles, killing thousands a year, are let off with fines.
As you can tell, it's something close to my heart this.
Oh, and as a side note, I lost my old man to drink when I was 7. Had alcohol been illegal, I'd have mentioned "the big three" up there, rather than "the big two", and that has nothing to do with the fact that "drink is legal and rife, therefore it can't be compared", and everything to do with scientific fact.
