As far as damaging the England team i would say definatley yes. With it being so easy to find and buy talent from abroad there hasnt been pressure on teams to train up and bring through young UK/British players which in turn has affected the national team. When you look at some English players that cant get into their clubs first team because of foreigners brought in its a shame, Adam Johnson is a prime example at City, if given regular first team football he could develop into a great player Think the influx of foreigners in the Premiership though has also made it what it is today, the most exciting league in the world and its been brilliant to see some of the players i have play over here I would like to see a rule come in though over time when clubs can only say have a maximum of 3-5 none UK players in their starting line up.
Under the reign of Sir Neil Warnock we barley signed players from outside Yorkshire, never mind foreigners
But yeah, the national team has definitely suffered. Everyone knows this is the case. Cruyff was saying this on Football Focus the other week. Problem is there's that much cash floating around as a result nothing will be done about it. How much has future England saviour Harry Redknapp creamed from signing the 2 dozen nobodies that bankrupted Pompey? Agents are making a killing for doing nothing. Too much player power too (started with Bosman, accelerated with the Anelka saga). I'm not saying it's the only reason we're shite. But we wouldn't have 'the best league in the world' if it were made up of 75% British players
all-seater stadiums, Sky and greedy footballers have ruined our game. Sky and the media talk about how much premiership football is worth to the clubs, but really, its the players who benefit not the clubs. Premier league football should be the cheapest in the world to watch, not one of/the most expensive, but because of players greed, its ridiculously expepensive. When Leeds last won the league in 1992, it wasnt a lot more than £10 to watch from the stands(if that). you would expect with the sky money, that it would be cheaper than that now, but its not, and the only reason for that is players wages
I think the greed of the premiership players also filters down the leagues , thus your average pro footballer is expecting ££,£££ per week ! Got to admit tho at Leeds the prices are if not the highest in the league yet the wages dont reflect that .
