Got to admit im liking the fact that they stick together and are standing up to the fuckers! At first i was like the cunts should get a job and stop moaning,,,but these are britains future, i think anyone doing a worthwhile degree should get bigger grants but the fuckers that do the degrees that mean fuck all and dont use them should pay more. There is a lad who works at my place on shift in a papermill and he done a media degree, never used it and said he only done it cause it was easier option
Live life to the full and enjoy, try and help people who havn't got as much as you, you never know what tomorrow will bring!!!!
But I heard a guy on local radio this morning making an interesting point. He was asked if students are finally becoming more engaged like they were in the 70's and 80's. He replied that the difference is that when he was at University in the 70's, students protested against violence, war and famine. These students are protesting purely for their own interests
I saw them on their march through glasgow today......pretty tame bunch really....about 2-300 tops....chanting/placcards etc etc....a few full on crustrys aswell and some anarchists handing out flyers and booklets...i had a wee read of one while i sipped my toffeenut latte and dodged the 1/2 bricks and molotovs.
I'm suprised Nick Clegg is still leader of the liberal party after today. He has single handedly condemned them to the history books. Good on the students having a ding-dong with the old bill. Hope the arseholes pissing on the monuments get a good shoeing.
As much as I like the fact that they are standing up for themselves etc. I seen an interview today that just made me angry with them. It was your typical student dickhead dressed like a twat, acting like a twat and protesting for the sake of it and to get their 5 minutes of fame. A lot of them are genuinely protesting against the fees but I would say the majority couldn't actually argue reasons why they should not be increased if they were sat down in front of the people increasing them.
Bottom line we as a nation need highly educated people for all our futures. But who should pay for it, you them or me because some one has to. I have no problem paying for Doctors, Engineers and boffins that invent things and the like. The people who will serve our courtly well and put back in. What I have a problem with is paying for some of the barmy courses, which will never provide people with skills to work, earn and live in the real world. I work with a few lads who have so called degrees and they are all thick as fuck. They all have students DEBTS but do the same job as me [I have no Uni. education]. Why should I pay for that load of bollocks? I pissed myself last year when one of them applied for a mortgage and got stung to pay his debt off. A degree in sports science. He fucked about for a few years going snowboarding and climbing and did a few exams. I tell him that his degree in CAMPING is useless and a Mickey mouse one. That IMO is the problem to many degree’s are sh#t and pointless and I say Fook em, why should I pay for them. RANT OVER.
Glad to see the support for them on here, I agree.
I also agree with the points made about the amount of degrees knocking about. IMO, Blair banding about the 50% to go to university ideal was ridiculous. 50% of the country don't want to go to university, and shouldn't be at university. I have friends who've done "business" degrees working alongside those who've worked for 3 years. What's the point? University should be about core academic studies, the rest should be vocational courses. Work based learning. That's where the money should be going.
for me its about the accessibility of university, i dont think access education should be limited by wealth! i ask the 'dads' on here, do you have hopes of any of your sons/daughters going to university? will it still be accessible to them at upto 9k a year?! i can understand some frustration with some degrees being seemingly useless. students will/should get a job and will also pay taxes too! it could well be in the higher tax bands! its peoples futures, and im glad that some people actually seem to give a fuck and are out there making their voices heard.
reached for the secret too soon, cried for the moon.
9k a year is wrong. It is too much, obviously people will be put off by this, you're looking at 35k-50k debt at the end of the degree. I'm in my 2nd year at uni now and if I could have turned the clock back, I'd have looked at getting a trade or just getting on the job ladder.

I thought that. Over summer when I was not at Uni I was an apprentice (as I do a construction based course) and it was fun, interesting and made me feel productive after my day. However, everyone there will be there till they retire. I at least knew after 4 months I would be back at Uni studying for a career that would give me different options in life.

I'm in a similair situation Jack. Love doing the work in the summer but what;s to stop me doing it full time if i really want to after uni.
It also came from the idea that I had of possibly starting a new clothing based company, you don't need a degree for that, but then I thought, I my as well get the degree and enjoy myself rather than regretting getting a degree if my life changes.
The more I have listened to the people representing students the more they are pissing me off. It’s all about them wanting this and wanting that and hardly any of them have paid any amount of tax. They think every one should make a sacrifice for them. Why the fuck should I pay for them when every one else in the country is having to cut back. Life isn’t fare ask the thousands of public sector workers who are losing jobs and those on a pay freeze. They are not a special case. No problems with them having a go at the OB but don’t bleat about it when they start cracking heads.
They need to get better PR people speaking for them IMO because they are not convincing me.
