Never been a fan of it, once you've seen one firework you've seen them all IMO. The park at the end of my street has probably had the biggest display in the North East for a number of years, always free put on by the council. Now due to cuts the council has scrapped all displays they did put on and instead Metro Radio are running the show charging on the gate. An absolute joke to be fair and capitalism gone mad. A lot of local shops have been selling fireworks this year which means you get a whole selection of bellends setting them off in residential areas which proves absolutely nothing other than the fact they are worthless little cunts who would be more use if they set them off up their own arsehole.
I wouldn't mind it, if it was for one night, but seems to start about mid October dies off come December only to restart at the end of December and finally finishes in mid to late January

The local big fireworks display is never on the 5th. Was on the 2nd of Nov this year which makes no sense at all? Have fond memories of preparing weeks in advance for Bonefire night when i was younger. Used to collect wood using a tractor and trailer from my mates farm up the road. A wooden telegraph pole was the centre piece of what was usually a massive affair with a large fireworks display, toffee apples, parkin cake and bonfire toffee and i remember it still smoldering in the morning. Used to get discounted fireworks from one of my relatives that worked at the Standard Fireworks Factory, (She also used to supply us with Crow Scarers which we used to empty the gunpowder out of them, build big explosives to blow up big piles of Manure up). I have feeling that our local council will at some point start to charge for the badly timed Firework's display...
My sister lives opposite the park so I usually go there for a few beers and some food..can't be arsed tonight I can see the fuckers out the window that will do

Thats bad craic that they've cancelled the show..... we go along to our local council show and tbh its really good.....the look on my boys face last night was priceless......its one of the few things my local council spend money on that i agree with....made a lot of people happy.
Having a chat with my dad earlier and he told me about his uncle who when he was a kid worked for Standard Fireworks and traveled the world putting on big firework displays. He used to turn up on Bonfire night with suitcases loaded with fireworks and put on a big display for the family. Dad went on to explain that bonfires and fireworks were part of the family. Guess thats why we used to have massive fires and cracking displays. Plenty fireworks were still going off earlier....
