just watched the dvd from the blackpool gig from 89(?). Jealous as fuck of anyone who saw them live back in the day, looks a quality experience. Anyone got any storys to share from their gigs or have the memories been double dropped away ;-)
I saw there last performance at Reading. It was fucking woeful, embarassing and should have never been alowed to happen. I fucked off to the super furries tank halfway through and got mashed off my e pipes...
About the Blackpool gig you mention on the DVD. Story goes that there were hundreds outside with tickets and when Brown got told about them he went down and opened a fire exit to let them all in.
to this day nobody can touch the roses, but it was probably a time and the place situation, spike island what can you say, the day was a life changing experience, buying dud pills from scousers, to one of the best days ever in my life with the lads, but nobody can deny, they were truly wank on the day!

How many of the original line up performed at Reading though? The Rose's first album is an iconic production that sounds just as good today as it did 20 years ago. That said I did see Ian Brown live in Dublin towards the end of 2009 and he was gash. But the Roses place in history is assured. Great iconic band.
The category of the prosumer commodity does not signify a democratization of the media towards participatory systems, but the total commodification of human creativity
@Casualcar - It was only mani and Brown by then - Mani jumped just after and that was that. I think if Brown and Mani had had any sense they would have not allowed that gig to happen as they had shot it by then and that cunt Ibramhimininz or what ever his name is should not have even been entertained - they cunt played with Simply Red.
I think that gig sullied their reputation somewhat. The first album is easily in my all time top five as it is fucking genius and their place in history/imortality is assured.

I remember being in Manchester one Saturday afternoon at the height of the Stone Roses reign. And literally every single shop (from Carl Twiggs up round past the Arndale to Affleck's Palace) I went in or walked passed had the album playing. I don't know whether it was some organised event or what. But I know I'll never witness that again
Went to Blackpool & Spike Island. Went on some double decker student bus to Blackpool & walked around the fair all day. Was up on the balcony where the fella does the yo-yo thing thats on the dvd. Great gig, Sound tunes before & the Roses where excellent. Bit ropey though on the way out though, seemed like the whole of the M postcode had turned up I was with my ex-bird & we all know how hard it is to get over to them that not chatting is the wisest option. Spike Island was OK but they took ages to come on & I'd had a fudge early doors. Easy getting home though.
spike island only time i seen them, decent gig, just got sick of waiting for them to come on stage,
gona make a cunt of myself but did anybody see that bloke dressed up in black velvet top -hat the works, who had horses hoofs as feet yes a was off my nut but been off my nut more times then i can remember and aint seen that cunt anywhere else
That is some admission Sean when off ur nut, hope somebody else did see him
aye few of my lot did thank fuck he was a strange one
The Blackpool gig when the dvd (am in the crowd shots) was made and Spike Island. Spike Island was the biggest load of sh ite ever and was totally over-rated by anyone who still wets their knickers over the Stone Roses.
Stopped off in some boozer on the way up, the most sensible fella in the pub had facial tattoo's. Ordered our drinks, had a sip and all hell broke loose as the pub decided to lob the furniture at us. Did alright though.
Very long and interesting journey back sitting up front with the driver, both of us on acid.
Seem to remeber the sound was fucking awful. Don't think i saw them anywhere else. I was more a Mondays/Flowered Up man.
Gutted I missed them at Maysfield Leisure in Belfast. As Darren says, probably the time and place as well as the band. Remember talking to Mani about the Belfast gig. He said after the gig they got into the swimming pool fully clothed, opened some beers and lit a few rockets. The Security was running around looking for them and then went mental (Belfast was smack bang during it's dodgy period so they didn't want people in there after the gig). Seemed a good lad Mani
best not talk about the clobber back then though
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
