where would the best place to stay if visiting the 02 arena lads, for pubs, food, nightlife and a decent hotel, also transport links,i'm thinking Greenwich area???? cheers
yeah thats what we'll be looking for somewhere busy with good few pubs close by,think greenwich will be best bet??? anywhere further into south east london and we'll need to make sure we're wearing bullet proof vests !!!!!!
the ibis or novotel in greenwich are in the town centre, which is a good bus ride to the arena (about 2 miles). or there's a holiday inn, bugsby way which is walking distance to the o2. bugsby way is getting on to charlton though. some cracking pubs off the touristy town centre bit in greenwich, but there are loads in borough/london bridge, which is actually only 10 mins by BR from greenwich station. dont believe what you hear about SE london, the natives are surprisingly friendly. and if you want a FANTASTIC steak, go the buenos aries cafe in blackheath village (over the other side of greenwich park, they have a buenos aries cafe in greenwich itself but it's more of a cafe, the other ones a proper steak gaff). village east (bermondsey st) or tapas brindisa (borough market) are brilliant restaurants near london bridge. you cant book brindisa but you have a drink while you wait, and it is worth it. couple of decent pubs round the market, which is itself well worth a visit on saturdays. an intersting pub is the roxy firther down borough high street, which has films on. also shows the football in HD on a screen the size of a badminton court.
anywhere withing walking disatnce of the 02 thats like a town centre high st type area,or am i pissing into the wind with that one?
greenwich is the nearest and thats two miles away - probably a fiver or so in a cab - depends if you're okay walking it. getting away from there is apparently murder.
if the jubilee is down then it can be a nightmare getting back from there. as mentioned above the best place to go for a few drinks may well be round borough/london bridge - only three stops on the tube and some very good bars nearby. If you're only going for the evening then your best bet is probably in Greenwich itself, even if it's a cab ride away. O2's got it's downsides (miles from civilisation despite being reasonably close to the center of London) but as arena venues go it's one of the better ones IMO

I've been on that boat at 7am sunday morning after rolling out of what was Matter nightclub, fuck me it was like a scene out of a Thriller video! Some right states aboard.

'we lost some good men that day'!
Ha, had the option of getting the boat but went with a (well overpriced) taxi instead. reckon i made the right call in hindsight!
I'm a South Londoner so know the place quite well. Apart from the 02 the area(Charlton) is a fucking dump. The three main places I would look at are Blackheath - 10-15minute drive,Greenwich - 10minute drive,London Bridge - Jubilee Line Blackheath - Nice park and Lovely little place(Blackheath Village) it's hard for someone not to like it,but Transport wise not too clued up just know its a 10-15 drive Greenwich - Much more busier and has some lovely boozers London Bridge - Easy access to anywhere in London,Good Boozers and places for grub,Jubliee line straight into the 02 plus you can get a 188 straight to Greenwich
Blackheath and London Bridge would be my preferred choices both easy to get Greenwich as well
My Mates Mate knows the owner of this boozer(Wall fan) always does right by us and it's slap bang in between the O2 and Greenwich well worth a look http://www.angersteinhotel.co.uk/site.html

cheers for info mate, sounding like london bridge or blackheath now, whats blackheath got to offer??? tbh will prob just stay at london bridge then go for a bevvy in greenwich?
Blackheath is full of restaurants - Thai,Indian,Italian and it has some lovely Bar/Pubs, If the sun is out then you could go up the heath or have a walk threw the park which leads you into Greenwich. London Bridge has some real nice boozers aswell (Borough High Street) and it's easily to access and get around London from the station.30minutes tops on a tube and you'll be in Greenwich
What I will say mate is even though Blackheath is a nice little gaff after a day or two theres not much to do during the daytime where London Bridge has such good transport links you wont get bored
we're only staying one night so just want somewhere thats got a good tube link to 02 and then somewhere for a drink after so sounds like london bridge cheers mate
