Quote by PeaksMid 2000's class defender, best in the world without doubt! Past his best now but still seems to put a decent shift in. And like Ramsees says he was playing alongisde Gallas and Carvalho who probably complemented him better.
Total twat like most of them but wouldn't bother me if I was a Chelsea fan.
That's laughable. Have you not heard of Carles Puyol? Or Fabio Cannavaro?
John Terry remains one of the most criminally overrated footballers in the English game.

your opinion of course but Obviously you don't make your living through football unlike those who seem to rate john terry...and no offence, whose opinion means something. Puyol? WEll aware of him. He was in the barca team we put 4 past in 2005 when knocking them out. JT scored the winner btw.... As I've said before, the amount of hate for our captain warms my heart

nice to see Chelsea being consistant tonight - another friggin red card !! went to that game Glenn - brings back happy memories .. days of Robben & Duff bombing down the wings ..

some game mate.3 up early doors. First 25 mins Iirc. Aye, Mourinho got the 'efficient' chelsea label but that first season we scored for fun. Eider, Joe Cole,Tiago, etc....the flying wingers and frank scoring left, right and centre.

If John Terry played for Tottenham the Chelsea lads on here would despise him and the Tottenham lads would love him. That's how football fans roll. We are all guilty of it.
As for John Terry being the best central defender in the world a few years back? Hmm not sure about that but probably the best 'stopper' for the rough and tumble of the premier league in his younger days. Never looked like the worlds best at International level though.

Found out at International level, nowhere near good enough and a yard too slow.
File along side other unanswerable questions such as...........
Why have England not won a major trophy since '66 Why did David Beckham win so many England caps Why do you say 'its only a game' when your winning Why do footballer's get paid so much money. Why do the Wolves fan hate Mick McCarthy, when i think he's doing a grand job.
why ? 1 of two reasons .. he's good enough to still be number 1 choice as a centre back / there is no-one else ... I'm gonna be biased towards him , stands to reason , but he's been instrumental in many good things at Chelsea , the success they've had .. and whatever thoughts are on him , player wise , he's captained his country , and has 71 caps ... 71 England Caps - sound like a player that's no good .. ?? ..
Just goes to show why England are in such a sad state in international football if Terry is the nunber 1. As you said your biased, but if you take off your blinker's for a minute and look at the bigger picture you'll see he ain't the player he was. His leg's left him a couple of season's back, he's too slow constantly pulled out of position and as i've said in a previous post has to resort to bullying..............which he's very good at. The Arse are gonna run him ragged the weekend.

This still JT we're talking about or have we moved on to the England national team?.....

he's not the player he was Tone, I'll grant you that. As I said, injuries, age and the fact that the last few seasons he's had numerous defensive parters with him (Luiz, Ivo, Alex, Carvalho, Ferriera - off the top of my head) and a suspect holding midfielder in front of him i.e. Mikel. I'd imagine playing alongside Luiz for example is like trying to keep centre back with Freddie Starr at times FFS 2 seasons back we won the double with 103 goals - first PL side to break 100 goals. I don't think we'd have done that with a rubbish defence mate or more importantly, him playing poorly. I know I'm biased and my statement about his class was during his pomp - in 2005 in his prime, I'll maintain he was the best about playing in a very good side which always helps too but nonetheless. The one thing I can say about JT is that he's 100% EVERY time no matter who we play. Not too many modern players you can say that about

Where did his legs go then?? I tell you one thing all you knockers would have had Terry in your team, just like Lampard and if you say you wouldn't you'd be lying.
As for the racism claim, i watched it last night and it really is a storm in a teacup. Could have been blind cunt, could have been black cunt. I'm sure people have called Scholes a ginger cunt before.

your original question was , gifted player / thug .. I told you , he's not gifted , just 100% effort player , blinkers ? you obviously have a grave dislike of him and wont recognise him as a good player , that's your opininon , but at the same time England in a state ? why 'cause he's playing ? if there had of been better they'd be in the side , as for Arsenal - we'll see , run ragged - no fucking chance , his pace may have dropped but he still reads the game well .. oh and now he's a bully as well as a rascist , who's blinckered me or you ?

Add cunt to that list anall.
Terry may have been a good player like G said in '05, but that were 6 years ago, nowaday's he's average player who look's good in a top team..............excuding England. Oh, and whilst we've touched on the England scene i could name you 6 other player's i'd pick before Teflon Terry.
fine your opinion , but obviously England managers don't seem to share your view .... only thing I would agree with you is on a personal level he appears to be a cunt , the cheating the stadium guff 9/11 - all undefendable and cuntish behaviour ... I still think he's a fine defender ...

interested though to see your 6 ...
still think that end of it is overplayed, Steve.
How about cheating on your wife with your brothers wife, including during her pregnancy? ooops, sorry, that was "Universally loved" Ryan Giggs... Or how about killing someone in a hit and run car crash? Crashing your car well over the limit? All to me, much worse than sleeping with your ex-team-mates ex girlfriend FFS
It was be easier naming footballers who aren't cunts - going on the definition of 'cunt' being used on here. I'd hate to see the lives of our members on here under minute scrutiny if we earned £150k a week and were one of the biggest sports stars in the UK (I suspect parking in a disabled bay and pissing in a plant pot wouldn't even get into the top 20 of 'cuntish' things)
.

It's a message board pal, people post their opinions. By that notion you're not entitled to post your views on clothing because you don't actually work within the clothes business.
Yep, you put four past Barca. But that year you also conceded 4 goals over two legs against them and Bayern scored five against you over two legs in your next tie. Your attack got you through those ties.
Terry's a good player in certain situations, no doubt about that. But he's basically a stopper and possesses very little skill as a footballer. Carvalho was a much better player who didn't receive as much praise because he wasn't English and because he didn't put in the heroic last ditch tackles like Terry did. Even though a lot of those last ditch tackles were made because of Terry's poor positioning in the first place.

your entitled to your opinion all day long. You called him being the best defender in the world "Laughable. You also referred to him as "criminally overrated". That's a fairly hefty insult for someone who was leader and captain of a team continually competing for the Champions League and winning the PL and assorted trophies, Captain of his country and highly regarded as a player by many leading football coaches, pundits, etc...in the game. Voted UEFA Defender of the year in 2005, 2008 and 2009 - presumably beating your mates Puyol and Carnnavaro in the process. Now this is UEFA, not some old pals act in England so hopefully you can see why I was dismissive of your opinion on this. You called him Criminally overrated. Mourinho called him Captain. My point was simple. Do you not see the point that if he was criminally overrated, he wouldn't have achieved half of what he has done?
Now, those 2 games you've mentioned. First off, Barca put 2 past us against 10 men at the Nou Camp. I'd suggest most teams would have succumbed to that. Secondly, Bayern. We were 4-1 in the first game until the 90th when they scored the second. We were 2-1 up inthe return game in munich until the 90th when they scored 2. In otherwords, both games were long well dead when those goals went in. At no stage, was it gonna make a major difference to the result so saying we conceded 5 masks the real story although it doesn't support your argument quite as well.....
Carvalho may have been a better ball playing centre back but better defender? not a chance. He dived into tackles, continually held players shirts off the ball and couldn't actually get a permanent place at centre back until Gallas went a bit mental and then left. And seriously, you're trying to tell me Terry made last ditch tackles because of his own frailties? do me a favour..... If you prefer other defenders, no problem. I'd have understood you making a case for a Carragher or Tony Adams or Rio as better defenders or whatever. That's all about opinions which vary even in football. But I'd suggest that Terry being 'Laughable' as the Europes best defender 3 times and "criminally overrated" isn't an opinion shared too far outside your bedroom

For years he's been found wanting at international level, anytime we've playing the better sides he gets the runaround because of his lack of a turn of pace.
Look at Germany at the last world cup, arse torn out.

I don't see why you're continually trying to suggest my opinion isn't valid because I don't work "in the game". You don't work in clothes production or retailing to the best of my knowledge, so can you not have an opinion as to whether you like a jacket or not?
And there are just as many people who don't rate Terry as do "in the game". His now team mate, Fernando Torres is quoted as saying "'Terry is captain so gets a much higher profile. But he's only secondary to Carvalho. Ricky is superb. He has every quality that is needed." This sums up my feelings pretty well. It's not surprising that Terry took the plaudits and awards as he was the leader of what was one of the best club sides of the past decade. But the reason he was able to play well and not have his frailties exposed (which have subsequently been exposed time and time again when not playing with these players) was due to Carvalho's reading of the game and the protection he received from Makelele.
I've not said that Terry wasn't a good player. He was. But the fact that some people on this thread have lauded him as the best defender of the mid-2000s shows just how overrated he is. I'd have rather had Cannavaro, Nesta, Ayala, Ferdinand, Puyol, Carvalho, Thuram and Maldini ahead of Terry at that time. So therefore, even though my opinion is entirely invalid as I don't work "in the game", I would say Terry is massively overrated. He's gone missing when he's not surrounded by top class players.
And as for those games against Barcelona and Bayern, you seem to be suggesting that a lack of concentration is an acceptable trait for the best centre half in the world. I don't think it is.
"First off, Barca put 2 past us against 10 men at the Nou Camp. I'd suggest most teams would have succumbed to that." You're right. Most teams would have. Truly top class teams, with top class defenders won't though. Look at Inter Milan against a much better Barcelona side two seasons ago.
