Quote by jack5How can you say Terry wasn't one of the best center halves in the world?! He was without a shadow of a doubt up their with Cannavaro and Puyol. Put those 3 in order is purely personal preference. All amazing and better than everybody.
Fair enough he isn't as good now, but still better than the rest in the Premiership. If you would rather play someone else at the back for England you are deluded.
I am a neutral to English football so I am not bias what so ever. But I do know if he played for United he would get his arse licked even more than Rooney, Scholes etc.
I even can understand those wanting him replaced at England now or saying he's slow now, etc...etc....I can kind of see an argument there. But to call it "laughable" that he's the best defender in the world in 2005 - after UEFA voted him what is tantamount to their choice as the best, I can't fathom. And as for Criminally overrated? Capello Ancellotti Gus Hiddink Phil Scolari and importantly, Mourinho who could easily have dispensed with him at that time, all feel differently. And that's just those who've managed him nevermind others. Obviously the members of the PFA in 2005 felt him good enough to be player of the year....
It is a fact that he won those awards. It's not a fact that he deserved them. That's purely subjective and depends entirely on an individual's opinion.
John Terry has never been a particularly quick player, I'm sure you'd at least agree with me on that. His game has never been based around pace and he's always been quite slow, albeit he is now slower than he was. The reason Terry performed well in the mid-2000s was because he was put in a highly organised Mourinho side where he was partnered by players who complimented him well and covered up some of his deficiencies - a lack of pace being one of the main ones. He also benefitted hugely from having Claude Makelele sitting in front of him, as would any centre half.
John Terry, like many other English players, has never performed as well for the national team as he has for Chelsea. There could be any number of reasons for this but in my view one of the main ones is that he hasn't been surrounded by players of the calibre he played with at club level which has subsequently seen his lack of pace and limitations as anything other than a stopper be targeted by other teams.
Quote by WrightyAs for the racism claim, i watched it last night and it really is a storm in a teacup. Could have been blind cunt, could have been black cunt. I'm sure people have called Scholes a ginger cunt before.
This old chestnut again? Are you saying that the two examples you gave are similar?
If you are basing the best defender in the world by awards, surely this man is far superior:
Don Balón Award – Breakthrough player of the year: 2001 Best European Defender: 2004, 2005, 2009 Best FIFA Defender: 2005, 2007 ESM Team of the Year: 2001–02, 2010 UEFA Club Best Defender: 2006 FIFPro World XI: 2007, 2008, 2010 UEFA Euro 2008 Team of the Tournament FIFA Team of the Year: 2008, 2009, 2010 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup Team of the Tournament FIFA World Cup All-Star Team: 2010 Prince of Asturias Awards: 2010
Also, take a look at what he has won at the centre of defence at, probably, the greatest club team in history;
BarcelonaSpanish League: 2004–05, 2005–06, 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11 Spanish Cup: 2008–09 Spanish Supercup: 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 UEFA Champions League: 2005–06, 2008–09, 2010–11 UEFA Super Cup: 2009, 2011 FIFA Club World Cup: 2009
And of course at the centre of defence of the greatest international team in the world;
FIFA World Cup: 2010 UEFA European Football Championship: 2008 Summer Olympics: Silver medal 2000 FIFA Confederations Cup: Third-place 2009
Terry comes absolutely no where near.... I don't disagree that he was a great player, but he can't touch the man above. Plus he is a cunt of the very very highest order.
Racism is a bad thing however black players are so quick these days to play the racism card.Terry may have said something in the heat of the moment to Anton Ferdinand,does that make him racist .No.He plays with several black players at Chelsea.People often say things they dont mean in arguments every day. Robbie Fowler once called Graeme Le Saux gay during a game knowing it would wind Le Saux up,he admits so in his autobiography does this make him homophobic.No. People get called names all the time,whats that old saying sticks & stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me,sometimes they do hurt people but the trick is to rise above it.
for me it's the reaction , none by Cole - stood right by him , Ferdinand , did nothing at the time ... 3 QPR players today say heard nothing and wont be giving evidence ...

All true but in this day and age racism/racist insults cannot be tolerated, especially from the England captain, John "Big Man" Terry. We don't know if he is guilty, he might be completely innocent, but it has to be investigated.

I'm sorry, but, racism card? Am I wrong in thinking he called him a black cunt? It's alright if he plays with a few black lads though eh. I've argued with many a black man. Never resorted to that behaviour.

Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?? I`m not a huge fan of John Terry but you have him hung drawn & quartered! The only thing i would be worried about with Terry is if my girlfriend or wife was alone with him! As for the racism card i think its easy for black players to accuse somebody of racism & get away with it.Evra once accused Steve Finnan of making a racist remark during a game,it was proved to be untrue.

Boom!
Good night Vienna.
Scrub the PRINCE of ASTURIAS award. John Terry once won a chicken at his local meat bingo. These sort of cancel each other out.
Quote by mkj1972Evra once accused Steve Finnan of making a racist remark during a game,it was proved to be untrue.
Stop peddling this fucking lie. Evra didn't accuse Finnan of anything. Nor did he accuse the Chelsea groundsman. Other people who were present at both 'incidents' did the accusing. The first and only person he has accused of racism on the pitch is the buck-toothed biter Suarez.

Aye fair play. I've seen the video but haven't really been following it so I was probably being a bit brash. That said, as I was making a case for the accusation, you were making a case for a defence. I can't agree with you saying "he may have said something in the heat of the moment", and my point still stands, no matter how heated a situation, there's simply no excuse.
Quote by STEVECFCgreat day for Terry , goal , then monumental fuck up ... gonna sulk for rest of the weekend ...
Were we watching the same game?
Ok, he scored a goal, but let's look at the rest his game.
The first goal Terry watches the ball go past him for Gervinho to score. Goal number 2 he watches Walcott get up off his feet to run on and score. And then there's that slip.
