You can't beat home cooking imo. Unfortunately it's abit of a rarity in our household, if the instructions ain't on the back of the box we starve!
Don't know how the rest of the lad's on here fare at home, but my Mrs' even by her own admissions is lacking somewhat in the noble age old art of cooking.
Here's one she prepared earlier (actually it's from a couple of weeks back) Charred Chicken.........Bless her!
My wife is shit at cooking and she knows it,she once attempted to make a fried egg sandwich but made such a mess it ended up looking like a mini omelette, only oven temperature she uses is incinerate. Even my daughter said the other week "we don't have very high expectations if mums making tea".
absolutely cracked me up, Both T and S with your nightmare stories, The old lady is a good cook but lacks confidence and wont do something twice.....Which has meant if i want anything she's cooked from scratch in the past again....I've had to cook it myself.
When i lived at uni it was always frozen food, because i couldn't be arsed to prep and cook for myself, got lazy and ate nothing but birdseye for a year.
Always have a go at burgers but make them incredibly big so they need ages to cook, but they always taste good. I'm a big burger fan, also like pub grub in the country too, I also have ranging standards, i can go for a dingey chinese buffet in Manchester but i'll also pay a high wack for decent food if its high quality in a nice setting.
I could write a book about my Mrs' kitchen disasters.
Not long after she moved in she decided to cook me a 'nice' meal, potato's, veg and a roast, sounded simple!
Anyway, as the story goes, she places the meal infront of me and gives me a nervous smile. It wasn't the best presented meal, certainly no nouveau cuisine, more of a throw it on the plate scenario. After failing miserably to pick up the boiled spuds with a fork, it kept sliding through the gaps, I had a brainwave. If I get a piece of meat I can mix it with the spuds and the jobs a good 'un. After endeavoring to chew the meat for a good 5 minutes I happened to catch a sideways glance of her staring at me. "What's the matter?" she says "Nothing!" "Go on tell me, I can tell by your sarcastic smirk" she says "Well" trying to put it nicely "This Beef's a bit chewy"
"Chewy!!!!!" she says, "Beef!!!!" she says......................."It's pork! .......it's supposed to be chewy!!!!!!"

I reckon the whole "photo diary your culinary exploits" concept has been missed with it, maybe should keep it to instagram/blog land.
Luckily me and her are competent in the kitchen so I eat like a king on a daily basis. We used to tour the regions best restaurants but sparingly do these days, cooking certainly is one of those things that progressively becomes appealing as you get older. A bit like dogging.

Most pie & mash shops in london do that , also only use a fork and spoon to eat never a knife

P&M shops generally put the mash on your plate with what looks like a trowel, I assume they put it on the edge of the plate so the potato is easier to scrape off.
Where did you go? Manze's On Tower Bridge Road is probably my favourite, the branch in Peckham is pretty decent too.

Arments on the wooly rd is the best in south london imo , Cookes in Broadway Market is my fav Pie & Mash shop though
Cookes is my local and is really good, but if you're ever around Exmouth Market, I have to say Clarke's is better. One to avoid is M Manze's on Chapel Market, way overpriced.
Nothing like a P&M debate! Cookes isn't too bad, but it attracts a bit of a touristy/curiosity crowd. The bloke who runs it is a nice fella though. Their branch in Hoxton seems to be a little bit quieter. Haven't been to Arments in a long time, very seldom up Walworth Rd, unless I'm on my bike to/from work.
